Distance: 33.5 Kms
Elevation G/L meters: 558:(513)
Not sure how to describe this day…33.5kms or 38.3 Adj kms for elevation gains/losses. I guess I can safely say it was a long walking day with approximately 8 hours of walking time.
Here are the fun Strava tracks…find these fascinating.
Strava - Day 4
Pleasant countryside mixed with a ridiculous (let’s say 6 - 8) scampers across main roads…fair amount of road walking…some rain (Altus more on this later). Essentially with the exception of one nice incident nothing really happened today. We just simply walked and walked and walked…made two 1/2 hours rest stops and we are here. So expect pictures and less of my little stories 😊.
Both of us are of course tired. We have walked 110.7 kms over the last 4 days or an average of 27.7kms per day…this before considering meaningful elevation gains/losses.
As I write this Paulo is off with two bags of very dirty laundry hoping to find THE laundromat. If not successful I am resigned to walking naked…with shoes…wearing my Altus poncho tomorrow. 😳
On the injury front surgery was not performed on my toe
blister yesterday. Today it looks much the same…kind of ugly…however I don’t feel anything walking. Currrent assessment is to leave it as is for now. Other than that no significant aches or pains at the moment 🤞🏽
Paulo’s blister is back so surgery will be required tonight. Unfortunately Paulo is having issues with his left foot. He has been in contact with a medical professional back home and following prescribed treatment.
Hopefully this issue will settle down over next day or so.
Back to last evening where we decided to pass on supper as we had eaten this and that and were frankly just a fatigued. However we did have a little something 😊

THAT was delicious! |
Similar to past days the morning was most enjoyable…a few pictures
On the pilgrim meeting side it was a fairly light day with one very pleasant exception 😊
Sonia from France (Bretagne)
Tim and Linda from the US (Colorado)
Roger from Switzerland (Zurich)
All of these were fairly brief pleasant encounters except for the following highlight of the day!
Early on we noticed a very large group of Spanish walkers…maybe 10 or so. We spent a good part of the day leap frogging each other on the path. Sometime early afternoon I crossed a main road and was about to enter the path when I noticed this group maybe 150 meters walking along the side of this main road.
They had turned left when they should have simply crossed to the other side. I yelled as best I could…waving my walking sticks and a few walkers stopped likely thinking “what is the crazy Canadian doing?”
Clearly they were assessing my ongoing pantomime attempt to point to THE PATH. Then slowly they stopped and started walking animatedly back to us.
Paulo and I waited for them and one after the other we heard “muchos gratias”…with huge smiles. One fellow actually said “we are so dumb”‘with a laugh.
This kind of mistake is so very easy to do. First person misses the sign to simply cross the road…then takes a
left turn…talking ensues…and voila…Canadian to the rescue! ☺️

The Spanish group moving ahead! |
Now it rained lightly on and off this afternoon…I really didn’t want to use my Altus Poncho as it was still in my bad books however I had completed a little research…
So I gave this a try and surprisingly I successfully flipped it over my head the first time…so will reassess my earlier decision to toast the Altus!
That’s it for the day…need to eat…rest and on to tomorrow which promises to be a shorter day at 22kms…please let it be so!
Now I wonder how Paulo is doing at the laundromat and whether my clothes will come back neatly folded!
A few other pictures from the day.
