Daily Information |
Distance: 29.2 Kms
Elevation G/L meters: 748:(719)
A very pleasant but long day at 29.2kms (35.7 Adj Kms for elevation gains/losses). We have entered the Galicia which has been compared to the Ireland of Spain due to the rain, vegetation and greenery. Walking in Galicia is always really interesting due to amazing landscapes.
Injury recap - Other than a crummy cold 🥶 that I have fighting since day 1 I feel great! No injuries to report. To date walking quite strongly…perhaps a little slower than in 2022… Paulo’s foot issue is also responding to medication, stretching etc. At times it’s clearly somewhat uncomfortable however he is a determined walker.
Our 4th time walking together…the solid understanding is health comes first and openness about an inability to go on a given day is critical.
Time for a short recap of the distances walked so far over 6 days. Suffice to say it has been a challenge 😅
Planned - 152.7kms or 25.5kms per day
Actual - 164.1kms or 27.4kms per day
Actual/Planned - 107.5%
Soon another specialty will be commonplace…pulpo or octopus 🐙. Back in 2014 I wasn’t so sure about octopus but now I look forward to it!
Here is one highlight for today!

Note blue dot in elevation profile…a happy moment! |
Again a super quiet day with highlights simply being the joy of walking in Galicia…and infrequent but pleasant interactions with fellow walkers.
Once again this blogpost will be heavy on photos and light on story telling 😊.
Back to last evening we ate at 8:00…which is the starting time for eating in Spain! Our 3 course menu was superb…

On the pilgrim meeting side it was a light day in terms of new meetings - Erick from Australia (Santander start).
Some morning pictures of this beautiful area of Galicia
Essentially the highlight of the day was a sharing of goods which exemplifies the Camino Spirit. Anyone walking today would have been surprised that prior to 22kms not a single bar/cafe/restaurant was open. While there weren’t many to choose from any we came across were closed!
I walked with Roger - Switzerland for a period of time. An interesting fellow in his early 50’s…financial planner as I understood it…is walking at a time when he needs to reassess things. He went ahead…Paulo and I were planning to stop at an advertised bar likely around noon. Rookie mistake…we had essentially no food with us.
As we passed this closed place Roger had taken a break and we commiserated together…geez we had just climbed the steepest section of the Camino route and NO Aquarius!!!
Roger then pulled out a bag of nuts and shared. He then reached in his bag and gave us a toblerone chocolate bar (saying I have three). We thanked him…later I gave him another chocolate bar…he laughed.
A nice moment on the Camino. As I told Roger the chocolate bar was a lift but the sharing was the real boost!
I just went to the supermercado and bought a bunch of stuff for tomorrow 🤣
Essentially that’s a wrap for the day. On to tomorrow when we have a 26km day with some decent elevation gains. Once there we will be more than halfway to Santiago de Compostela!
