Another very good day with sunny skies walking 27.5kms. The terrain was pretty easy so no problems. I think it was the strongest walking day for both of us. The pull of Santiago de Compostela may be helping us.

A couple questions about 1) shower apparatus problems and 2) dangerous animals have been received. In past blogposts I have sometimes mentioned these troubling issues…

Shower apparatus

In my PEI Island walk in Canada 🇨🇦 this was a particular significant problem. It seemed that at every accommodation stop the shower apparatus was essentially Greek. I am pleased to report no issues whatsoever on the Camino Norte. Hot to the left, Cold to the right. Various apparatus are consistently easy to use. Is it that Spain is that advanced or have I actually started to catch on? Who knows 😊?

Dangerous Animals

A hot topic through many many past blogposts. I just seem to attract dangerous animal encounters time and time again. Well absolutely NADA encounters to date…no large dogs rushing out of yards barking like crazy, no sneaky cat (pretend tigers) attacks, no slithering snakes, no dangerous bees, wasps or hornets buzzing around, no huge cows with horns, no dangerous sheep…a few slugs. This has been the quietest long walk ever! Hopefully next 3 days will be quiet as well 😌

Back to last night at the Albergue A Lagos we had a great home cooked meal. Marie from Canada joined us which made for interesting conversation. Marie has had quite a varied work experience over the past 3 years navigating various ships around the world and recently in the Great Lakes. She navigated a vessel through the Suez Canal…forgot to ask if her ship had any Somali pirate issues 😳

Delicious beef soup

Pork and guess what? Fries!

Ice Cream treat

Yesterday we stayed in our first Albergue. Fortunately we had a room with two bunk beds to ourselves. An interesting setup in that a light switch in our room turned on/off lights in the adjoining room.  Noise travels everywhere and someone decided at 5am to turn on the light in the shared bathroom half a dozen times bathing our room in light. Thank you very much 😡

Quite frankly communal Albergues aren’t my thing. Yesterday reinforced that feeling…I will leave it that 🙂

Yes I had to utilize the top bunk as the plug receptacles on the bottom bunk could not be accessed 🙃

A few new pilgrim encounters…

- Sam from the UK a young man from England who plans on being in Finistère on Oct 17th. The plan 40 kms today, 50 kms tomorrow, 40 and 50 kms the following days. Sam’s comment “I feel at that pace I may miss some things.”

- Adam from Ireland (Kilkenny) upon entering the first break coffee shop came over to me asking if I was from Ireland as he detected an Irish accent…no word of a lie. I did mention that I had spent 11 days in Ireland this past May and perhaps that was why 😂. Once again he does not know my Irish friend John L.

- Gretchen and Avena from Toronto Canada who started a long ways back in San Sebastián.

- Peter from Canada (Kamloops)

This morning was a touch cool for shorts and the supposed 8 am breakfast at the Albergue simply was AWOL. Fortunately we found an excellent coffee shop 2kms down the road!

Early walking was rocky terrain…almost Cambrian shield like. Not something we have encountered so far.

We had a couple of rest breaks along the way…

And then we were in Sobrado de Monxes…

Paulo and Roger (Switzerland)

My one planning regret so far…The Sobrado Monastery is supposed to be very special. They even have a limited number of private rooms which I did not know of. This would have been a MUCH BETTER Albergue choice than last night.  I realized this too late…oh well! Anyone reading this take notice!

Late breaking news! Stay tuned for a nice update to the Sobrado Monastery in tomorrow’s blogpost.

On to tomorrow the last long day at 30kms. 60kms to go to Santiago de Compostela…motivation is strong.

A few pictures…
