- Breathtaking views from the trail; the sea, small beaches, rugged coast, cliffs, etc.
- Cabo Sardao – a beautiful cape and a lighthouse.
- Many storks nests on the edges of the cliffs. The best area for spotting storks was at 18 km/11 mi just before Entrada do Barca, there were some nests with babies that you could come pretty close to.
- Stunning views from the cliffs just before Zambujeira.
Challenges
- First 10 km/6,2 mi on the dunes
- A short stretch of boring walking along the road past Entrada do Braca, for about 1,5 km."
Overall tough to summarize this day 😳. Spectacular walking for likely 80% of the day…challenging sand walking for a fair number of kms…what I call point A to point B walking (start at A…must get to B…no other reason for walking) for the last 5kms…goofup by yours truly resulting in 3km/1hr penalty…iPhone meltdown almost resulting in sleeping on the beach…dangerous animal situation.
There…I don’t have all night…you don’t have all day let’s summarize this!
We decided to walk the official Fisherman’s way which resulted in a 2km+ loop that most others skipped. It was worth the effort!

Shortly after rejoining the folks who skipped the initial section I glanced at my wrist. 💩💩💩 « where is my prized Suunto watch? « Did it fall off my wrist? Did I leave it behind? BOTH IMPOSSIBLE! However Leonard reminded me that I could not find my sunscreen this morning in my fantastic new packing approach and that he gave me his tube.
I had removed my watch to apply sunscreen…sooo…after some discussion off I went back to our room. Of course the door was locked and no key! I messaged Marika and by good fortune she was upstairs…into the room and voila « ON THE BED UNDER A THROW BLANKET »
OMG…have I ever done something like this before? 🤷♂️
Leonard was very understanding (a paid snack was offered) and off we went…we are now last to leave Almograve.
The walking was a touch challenging in the sand however it was superb …likely the most scenic of the Fisherman’s Trail to date.
A really pleasant walk through a pine forest and a quick stop to pay off my watch fiasco…
And then it was bound to happen a dangerous animal encounter. I bravely walked right past these two horned goats…and survived unscathed…
A quick stop for a bite (fish soup) seated at a table with a number of folks from Germany and then the final walk.
And for the grand finale my new iPhone 16 (should be better than Leonard’s old clunker) shows 5 bars but zippo internet connectivity! All info on how to find and enter days accommodation in my Booking.com app. Getting ready to lay down on sand for the night…then try a System Architect trick…power off/on (after power bank boost) and voila we are home for the night.
On to tomorrow and Odeceixe…20 or so kms…maybe a few sprinkles. Need a beverage…a few random photos…
